The IAM 3D HUB incorporates Renishaw’s latest metal 3D printing model

The RenAM 500Q multiplies by 4 the number of lasers used during printing.

The digital innovation center, IAM 3D HUB, has just incorporated Renishaw’s latest metal 3D printing model, the RenAM 500Q, into its facilities. In this way, the Hub replaces the previous models, AM 250 and AM 400, with the latter, which has four 500 W high-power lasers that allow more precise build rates and up to 4 times faster than in previous systems.

The objective of incorporating this new equipment into the Hub’s facilities is to encourage innovation and the use of high technology in metal additive manufacturing, unlike previous models that were mono laser.

Renishaw’s new equipment will allow to produce stainless steel parts with a manufacturing rate of up to 150cm3/h, the proximity between the lasers in the optical systemconsiderably reducesthermal errors and ensures simultaneous access of all lasers to the entire worktable surface. The construction volume remains like the previous models, 250 mm x 250 mm x 350 mm.

800 m2 with the latest 3D printing technology

This new addition is added to the expansion that the IAM 3D HUB has made in recent months in its facilities: reaching almost 800m2 (including the exhibition hall, printed parts showroom, metal printing area, BASF materials laboratory, 3D printing pilot plant).

In addition to the incorporation of Renishaw’s new metal printing equipment, the Hub has expanded its fleet of state-of-the-art HP Multi Jet Fusion 3D printers. Currently, it has 16 industrial printers, along with HP’s post-processing and part cleaning stations. In addition, this past 2020 and despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, inaugurated a new laboratory for the materials testing with the support of Forward AM by BASF. In this new space of the Hub there are different filament printing equipment and photosensitive resins, as well as technology for cleaning and post-processing of the different parts.

About the IAM 3D HUB

The IAM 3D HUB is a digital innovation center specialized in additive manufacturing and 3D printing, whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies in the European Union industrial sector as an alternative to the design, development and production of new products and services that strengthen its competitiveness.

The IAM 3D HUB offers a one-stop-shop service to advise and guide companies wishing to bet on 3D printing. And it contributes to a new era of tool-less code-to-material production as a fast, safe, and efficient manufacturing method.

It is an initiative founded by HP, Leitat Technological Center, Renishaw, Forward AM by BASF and Abrast by Coniex as technology partners, as well as the 3D Factory Incubator, the first 3D printing incubator in Europe, and Fira de Barcelona, next to its salon: INDUSTRY ‘From Needs to Solutions‘, with the support of ACCIO. the public agency for the competitiveness of Catalan enterprise, attached to the Ministry of Enterprise and Knowledge of the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia. The Hub is located in the Leitat Technology Centre in Terrassa, near Barcelona.
